Lily James confirms return to Downton Abbey for Christmas special finale amid pregnancy rumours

Lily James has let slip that she will be returning to Downton Abbey for the Christmas special finale, amid rumours that her character, Lady Rose Aldridge, will be pregnant.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, in which she models high-end fashion for a beautiful photoshoot, the 26-year-old said her return to the show was nostalgic.

She said: 'It was amazing going back after a break. You are just totally re-inspired by the wonder of it, that grand house against grey skies.'

The aristocratic character left the show in last year's Christmas special, following her wedding to Atticus Aldridge, with the pair heading to New York together.

This year, the programme will be set in 1925, with the main theme being centred around the decline of the once incredibly wealthy Crawleys.

In a previous episode of the show, shown in the summer, Lady Mary suggested that Lady Rose could be expecting a baby with her new husband.

'I think she could be pregnant,' she says, while reading a letter from her cousin, although this assumption is quashed by fellow character, Edith.

Lily has only good things to say about her role, telling the magazine: 'I have such happy, positive memories and a sense of accomplishment about being on the show. I don’t know if I’d be sitting here if it weren’t for Downton. It would have all been very different.'

In fact, her acting career appears to be going from strength to strength - and it has just been announced that she will star in the BBC's War And Peace.

A new trailer for the drama promises love, sex, battle and intrigue and is certainly not for the faint hearted with passionate scenes in the bushes.

It's been hotly tipped as the must-see drama of 2016, and the BBC has released the first trailer from forthcoming drama adapted by Andrew Davies.

Alongside Lily, stars 12 Years A Slave star Paul Dano, James Norton and Gillian Anderson.

Set against a stunning snowy backdrop, lead James - who plays Prince Andrei Nikolayevich Bolkonsky - declares 'I love her', aptly setting the scene for a spectacular six-part adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's literary epic.
