Recently retired US Womens Soccer star Abby Wambach is being immortalized in Barbie form with a new doll released by Mattel on Thursday. The legendary Olympian and World Cup champion joins a diverse group of women who have had limited-edition dolls crafted in their likeness, including Ava Duvernay and Zendaya. It’s been a big week for Barbie, following last week’s launch of curvy, tall and petite dolls.

U.K.-based “ethical” retailer Rose & Willard made headlines Friday after announcing that models on their shoots would be forced to eat on set or risk not getting paid. In a blog piece for the Huffington Post titled, "Our Models Will Have No Choice But to Eat," the brand's founder Heidy Rehman discusses the culture of "starving models" and what is being done in the industry to protect their health. Rehman believes that current restrictions on age or BMI are not enough to counteract the pressure to be thin.
Melinda Gates, philanthropist and co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, is MarieClaire.com's newest contributing editor. The businesswoman will write a regular column regarding her work for women's rights as well as stories from her travels doing humanitarian work both in the U.S. as well as in developing countries.
